FAQ
How do you choose your guests and get them to take part?
We usually aim to book high profile figures, such as big names or people responsible for popular creations, productions, publications or institutions, including those at the top of their creative or media based fields. We seek guests that we feel would provide interesting insights into the area that they have succeeded in and many have proven to be inspirational for the attendees. Contact is commonly made through their agents, although sometimes directly to the potential guests. Many of the guests are booked some months ahead, due to other commitments. These have often been some of our most enlightening and entertaining, such as Barry Cryer, who would love to appear again, William Orbit, William Nicholson and Miranda Sawyer.
Can I reserve a seat?
To buy tickets in advance purchase tickets online by clicking the BUY NOW button on the page of the event you wish to attend, or contact the particular venue hosting the event. Your name will be on the prepaid list at the next event.
Who qualifies for the concessionary entry fee?
Students, unemployed, and OAPs are eligible for the Concessionary rate.
Is The Space a business, a charity or something else?
The Space is an Unassociated Incorporation. Any money left over from each event’s immediate expenses go towards the costs for the following events.
What does the entrance fee cost and the funds from the raffle cover?
All money taken at events covers venue hire, guests’ travel and other expenses, poster and flyer printing and distribution. Any money left over is banked for future events.
Do the guests get paid?
Everybody, including the guests give their time for free, with exception to the Latest Music Bar's staff and sound engineer.
Are the interview recorded and, if so, what are done with them?
We aim to record each interview, and we seek permission from the guests before doing so, including the audience Q&A sessions. Clips from some of them are currently available on our website. There are various outlets that we intend to make further use of them through in the near future, including podcasts and CD copies. We feel that it is important to regularly document The Space and the events, including through audio, of course, written reviews and photographs.
What time does it finish?
The events usually end at around 10pm, although attendees are welcome to stay much later for networking.
