Special guests: Trevor Dann and Laura Atkins
Hayley Sherman speaks to Radio Academy Director Trevor Dann and Children’s Literature Specialist, Laura Atkins. Also performing will be singer/songwriter Carly Bryant. Her compelling songs, influenced by artists such as Janis Joplin and Fiona Apple, will be a great way to end the proceedings.

Trevor Dann
Trevor was very light hearted throughout his interview, as he discussed his achievements in broadcasting and journalism. Among his many amusing anecdotes was his banning of Status Quo from Radio 1's airwaves, and the group's unsuccessful attempt to sue the BBC as a result. Trevor also told Hayley of his aims behind the acclaimed biography on the singer/songwriter Nick Drake.
Trevor is Director of the Radio Academy, the professional body for the UK radio industry. He is also a writer, broadcaster and media consultant. His first book, the acclaimed Nick Drake biography, Darker Than The Deepest Sea was published in 2006.
Trevor presents an album show on Classic Gold and produces programmes for BBC Radio 2. He was previously Head of BBC Music Entertainment, responsible for Radio 1, Radio 2, Top of the Pops and Later with Jools Holland.
He is known in the music industry as the man who overhauled Radio 1's music policy during its mid-nineties repositioning. As Managing Editor of GLR, launched the radio careers of Chris Evans, Chris Morris and Danny Baker. Trevor has contributed to The Times, The Guardian, Q, Music Week and Mojo, and has won a BAFTA for Live Aid.
Laura Atkins
Laura discussed her varied role as a Children's Literature Specialist, giving the attendees an insight into this increasingly popular field, including how the publishing world differs in the states, as she spent seven years in the industry there.
Laura is behind, with creative writing organisation, The South, a forthcoming Brighton based Children's Literature Festival, which will feature former SPACE guest William Nicholson on April 21.
Carly Bryant
